Letter To Parents

Dear Parent,

Woodlands Cricket Club was formed in 1894 and for the major part of its existence has been an archetypal village cricket club with players and support coming mainly from the village of Oakenshaw.

In recent years the club has been forced to look outside the village for players and support and today there are few players who live within the community and our local member base and support continues to contract.

The club continues to be run, on the voluntary effort of its members but time has taken its toll in recent years and there have been few to step forward and replace those members who can no longer help.  Consequently the club relies on an ever-ageing band of a few volunteers.

So how does all this affect you?  As club Treasurer, I want you to be aware of the extent to which  the club subsidises junior cricket .  We have always been proud that we have kept our  junior subscription charges at an affordable level for anyone who might want to join us, and we hope to be able to continue to do so, but at £25 they are far less than most other clubs.

So what can you do to help?

You can become a member of Woodlands Cricket Club yourself.  In order to encourage new members, we offer family membership at £40, that’s only £7.50 each for two parents on top of the £25 junior subs.

You can support our bar and social events.

You can help with  the many voluntary duties that running a cricket club entail, from maintenance work on and around the field, to helping to run the sports hall and the bar, to helping with or organising money-raising efforts, manning the gate on senior match days or selling raffle tickets  -  even joining the committee and helping with our longer-term projects.

A look round the ground (immaculately maintained – all by volunteers) will show that we lack behind most clubs in obtaining sponsored advertising boards – perhaps you know of someone who might help.

We have a ball sponsorship scheme for senior matches.  Perhaps ball sponsorship might appeal or maybe you know someone who might be willing to sponsor a match ball for £25?

Woodlands Cricket Club has provided cricket facilities for 120 years.  If it is to continue for another 100 years we need new support and we hope that you will think seriously about helping us.

Thank You

Cricket
